Lifeline’s paid and volunteer counsellors have supported New Zealanders for 58 years through the trusted, well-known 24/7 community helpline (0800 LIFELINE). They provide free, safe, confidential support that can be accessed anywhere in New Zealand, at any time – as they believe every young New Zealander should be able to access support when they need it. Their goal is that young people end their conversation with a counsellor feeling safer, resilient, more hopeful and better equipped to cope with what they are facing than when they reached out.
On an average day, Lifeline receives 300 calls and exchanges 700 texts through their national 24/7 counseling service. Many people struggle with loneliness and need a sense of connection. Some need to talk through relationship difficulties. Others need support for clinical mental health issues including addiction, anxiety and depression. Some are suicidal.
