ACTIVE MINDS

Active Minds is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization promoting mental health awareness and education for young adults. Through education, research, advocacy, and a robust presence in high school and college campuses, they are changing the culture around mental health.

Active Minds was founded in 2003 by Alison Malmon - then a junior at the University of Pennsylvania - following the death by suicide of her only sibling, Brian. Inspired by the way her friends rallied in support around her after Brian’s death, Alison sought to create a student-led movement that would change the culture around mental health. Her goal: that no other young person would struggle in silence as Brian had. Starting with one chapter in one dorm room, Active Minds now has a presence in 800 communities across all 50 states and directly reaches more than 1 million young people each year.

Through signature programs including the National Chapter Network, the nationally acclaimed Send Silence Packing exhibit, and compelling Active Minds Speakers, Active Minds is creating communities of support and saving lives.

As the Foundation’s Strategic Non-Profit Partner in the United States, Active Minds has received monetary grants totaling over $944,000 USD since 2020. Together, we’ve impacted 340,403 youth and counting through this funding.
